Business Coaching – how it works

Business Coaching – The mechanics of our craft

We work as consultants using the principal of “Flucture” – a union of flexibility and structure:

Structure – the defined business models and processes we work through
Flexibility – the way we adapt structure to the specific needs of businesses we work with

Our business model

CoPilot modelBusiness Model

P.I.L.O.T.

To deliver our process, we’ve developed our own mnemonic—P.I.L.O.T.—which translates into five critical discussion points:

Present location – What is the current location? Are you where you want to be?
Issues – What’s not working? What do you need to change?
Landing destination – Where are you trying to get to? What are your goals?
Obstacles – What challenges do you need to overcome? What is holding you back?
Tasks – What do you need to do differently? How could you work differently?

Diagnostics

        “Treatment without diagnosis is malpractice.”
               – Warren Hoffman (renowned leadership author and coach)

That sums up a main difference between us and your average business advisor. Typical coaches offer solutions aligned with their own business backgrounds—e.g., a former bank manager suggests you need to improve your financial management, or a former sales professional suggests increasing your marketing expenditures.

Whilst both viewpoints could be valid in certain situations, they shouldn’t be default, one-size-fits-all solutions.

Our approach differs in two crucial ways:

1) Before offering any solutions, we perform a thorough business diagnostic using proven tools to ascertain where obstacles to growth lie within any given business.
2) We’re not a one-man band, so we can view your business through different sets of eyes.

We tailor our diagnostic process to your circumstances and resources, resulting in an objective, more detailed and rigorous assessment of your current challenges.

Implementation

A CoPilot is an amalgamation of three established advisory roles:

What is a CoPilot?

These functions manifest themselves into the following services that we can simultaneously offer our clients:

1) Implementation
We can facilitate the adoption and implementation of ideas recommended in the business growth plan that we generate. A great idea stays just a great idea, after all, until it’s translated into a new business process, structure, or revenue stream.

2) Coaching
Our success is directly proportional to our ability to cope with and rise to new situations. Having an experienced and constructive coach by your side undoubtedly increases your chance of achieving a positive outcome from new ventures—and also makes the journey less stressful if not enjoyable!

3) Support
We know that leading your own (or someone else’s) business is sometimes a solitary and lonely experience. In that respect alone, having a trusted, supportive advisor to offer you a second opinion or bit of impartial advice is invaluable.
